Brian Eno Encourages Backing to Send Palestinian Solidarity Track to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The project aims to deliver assistance to people in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
An Opportunity for Solidarity and an "Unlikely Coup"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a moment to show solidarity with Palestinians during the holidays. He noted the potential for an surprise number one.
“It would be fantastic if that came to pass, yes,” he stated. “I won't be completely disappointed if it fails to, Christmas singles are a thing unto themselves.”
Resilient Spirit of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's resilient spirit.
“It has a profound significance for many individuals,” Barghouti explained. “It’s basically saying that I would rather die in dignity than live a life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we seek to lead a respectful existence that we merit as a people.”
Track's Background and Featured Artists
The track was produced in the wake of a large-scale benefit event held in late summer. Initially planned to be done as a live recording, the performance was omitted from the lengthy event due to time constraints.
The diverse array of performers appearing on Lullaby includes a selection of prominent voices from the scene. All took part in the earlier concert, which managed to collect a substantial amount for relief efforts.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was produced by a group of music creators. The single features a fusion of the heritage language with freshly written English words.
The team running the campaign have emphasized that their aim is to raise as much as possible for a dedicated fund. These proceeds will be channeled to projects in Palestine through an non-profit partner.
“We don’t have a specific target,” a figure commented. “We aim for the maximum achievable. Obviously, the higher the total, the greater the impact. It all goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The reality in the territory was described as its widespread damage, with a huge proportion of property said to be destroyed or damaged.
“Given that reality, a few million is unlikely to make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is primarily making this cause better known and proving that another narrative exists.”
The song is set to be released at the end of the week. Additionally, a full recording of the solidarity show will be made ready to watch on a major video platform from the 19th of December.
