Fans Call for Arrest of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate supporters of the pop star are calling for that a person who leaped a fence and seized the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be detained or removed from Singapore.
A viral footage shows the person identified as Johnson Wen pushing past media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the performers proceeded down a event pathway accompanied by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately pulled the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being escorted out of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being arrested", though official papers indicated that he was scheduled to appear on the next day. It is unknown if he was faced legal action.
Record of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Troll Most Hated", has invaded a performance. His Instagram profile includes recordings of him disturbing other celebrity events, including rushing the platform at the pop singer's Sydney concert in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last year.
"Steps should be implemented applied against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," commented an Instagram commenter, in a response to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Express Concern Over Grande's Past Trauma
Numerous fans blamed Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had spoken of dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the finale of her spring 2017 concert in Manchester, killing 22 people and wounding numerous individuals.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said one more response on Instagram.
Several fans also faulted guards at the Thursday event for not being sufficiently alert; while different individuals demanded social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Event Details
In footage circulating online, Grande appeared startled when she was touched by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has not issued a statement on the event, and the remaining proceedings proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of fans had assembled in a sea of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good regional debut in a Singapore mall, including a number who had queued for as long as eight hours before it began.
The movie, to be launched on November 21, is the second of a dual version of the popular Broadway and West End show Wicked, which revolves around the surprising bond between two distinct witches.
The production itself is a derivative of the 1900 story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was dressed in a rosé sparkling outfit at the gathering while Erivo, who portrays the villainous character, wore a elegant ensemble embroidered with roses.
They were alongside cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing movie of the previous year in the UK, and received 10 Oscar nominations, winning two for outstanding attire and set decoration.
