Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any damage is uncertain and the United States has not commented.

Airspace Engagements

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - reported they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their territorial skies.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.

IRGC Statement

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was striking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on the Islamic Republic initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.

That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on areas associated with the the regime, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to revolt against the government.

Regional Fallout

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems dealt with the projectiles with great effectiveness and shot down a number of missiles," the statement continued.

It said debris landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and killing a civilian.

The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
