Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the past five grands prix.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from his teammate by one point after taking the win in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, if briefly, when he rotated at Turn Four early in the session.
The Japanese spun out over the track edges before rotating through the escape zone, and was blessed to get away with just a minor contact of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the practice, rotating twice through the high-speed Mergulho corner before the final bend on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in P19, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, 0.619secs off Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
