President Trump Invites Relatives of Shot National Guard Personnel to the White House
Former President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has asked the family of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the White House.
He mentioned that he conversed with her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Devastating Shooting
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a shooting on Wednesday in DC.
Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Vigils across the state have occurred in their honor.
Presidential Offer
The commander-in-chief said he’s discussed a White House visit for the parents of both individuals of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” the president addressed reporters. “And similarly with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Public Reaction
Community members came together over the weekend at the high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been working with the military unit as part of Trump’s government program to support law enforcement in the capital.
Remembering Beckstrom
“Sarah was the individual that instructors desired. She behaved with quiet strength, a bright grin and a positive energy that lifted those around her,” the principal, the leader of her previous school, stated to the Associated Press. “She was caring, caring and always eager to help others.”
Service arrangements for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Measures and Government Adjustments
Authorities have accused a 29-year-old suspect with one count of murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The incident caused the administration to halt asylum applications and halt granting entry permits to owners of Afghan passports.
Condition of Wolfe
The airman, a resident of the city, started his military career in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, per the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey said on a news program.
Attorney general Pam Bondi stated on Fox News Sunday that she planned to speak to the family.
Legacy of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County high school in 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a MP with excellence, per the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had fortitude,” he told the gathering at the service. “Though her life was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
