Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was expected for concerns to be raised about his future following a further convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in 12 games, marking the team's worst streak since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received significant support from management,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”
He added, “In the normal exchanges I sense the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Issues and Player Reaction
Slot lamented familiar shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a period such as this with performances so bad.”
He finished, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And until it is removed, we’re always going to battle.”
“We will attempt to get this team back to its rightful place, show everyone once more what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it needs to change.”
