The Details Known About the Victims of the Bondi Terrorist Incident
A minimum of 16 people perished and over 40 were hurt when attackers opened fire at a Hanukkah event at Bondi Beach, an attack local authorities have called a terrorist attack.
According to the most recent information, authorities have stated the number of fatalities is 16, including one of the alleged gunmen. Furthermore, 42 people with injuries were taken to medical facilities.
Those who died are still awaiting formally identified, but investigators think their ages span from 10 and 87 years of age.

Eli Schlanger
Originally from London clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first victim to be named.
Known as a father of five children, he was the assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Family members and friends remembered him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very kind and sociable person who was dedicated to assisting others”.
“How can a happy rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, have his life ended in this way?” a relative said.
Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the arrival of their youngest child just a few months ago.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman also lost his life, according to his wife.
She told the moments leading up to the shooting, saying they were standing when the gunfire began. “He moved to protect me because he wished to be near me,” she said.
The couple were both survivors of the Holocaust, having experienced immense hardship in their childhood. They had subsequently moved to Australia from Ukraine.
Dan Elkayam
French foreign ministry have confirmed that French man Dan Elkayam is among the victims.
In a statement, a senior official said that France stood with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This despicable act is a fresh and tragic example of a disgusting rise of hatred against Jews that we must eradicate,” the message read.
One Child
A 10-year-old girl who was taken to the Sydney Children’s Hospital is among those who had died, police have confirmed.
One Israeli Citizen
One victim from Israel was also killed during the attack, as per reports referencing the Israeli government.
Those Injured
Of the 42 people transported to hospitals, many remain under care, with several in critical condition. Those hurt comprise two officers who attended the scene.
A casualty is a bystander who rushed to the scene to confront one of the attackers. Described as a hero, he sustained gunshot wounds but is in stable condition in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer. Sources state he was wounded and underwent treatment in hospital.
In a message, he described the incident as an “horrific scene,” but also praised the actions of those who came to assist. He stated he believed it was a “stroke of luck” he was alive.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was also injured in the shooting. He described he heard “a large number” of shots.
“I thought it was something less lethal, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I was hit. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
