The former Liverpool manager says rejoining to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Anfield in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback remains an option. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-season tenure featuring continental glory and the Reds’ first league title since 1990, currently occupies roles as head of global soccer with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won the league title in the previous campaign, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would embrace the idea of his potential comeback. In a wide-ranging interview, he shared with Steven Bartlett: “I stated I won't manage any other side within the country. Which implies in case it's my former club...absolutely. It's plausible.”
“Being 58, which suggests I could make the decision in a few years, it's uncertain. Is a decision required immediately? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, no such pressure exists. I'll wait and observe how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Questioned regarding the specific conditions would have to unfold to tempt his return to the dugout, he confessed he was not instantly drawn toward coming back. “It's unclear to me, My present work fulfills me,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing in the rain for lengthy sessions; I don’t miss going to press conferences repeatedly each week or doing numerous chats weekly.
“No nostalgia for the changing area as a dressing room, but sitting in a restaurant with the players having a nice chat, that’s nice. We won a lot of games thus frequently great spirits in the building. I still have the captain's chuckle in my ear as an instance.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly of the current boss, praising him for the adjustments that won the league in the previous season. They've been defeated a string of losses in every contest following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the idea it could be a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker like Florian Wirtz, critics will regret with negative comments. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, excellent performer. They have a strong well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry about Liverpool, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of Diogo Jota, a player he signed during his tenure, along with the consequences on Liverpool. The Portugal international died tragically in a car crash together with his sibling this past summer.
“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond his footballing ability, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the team environment absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. A profound tragedy for all the boys as well. Not a single person will ever use it for poor performances though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room which he filled completely. Handling this emotionally is difficult. Overwhelming.”
