This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.

While perhaps not at the identical stature as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a current administration.

“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”

The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The animal, donated by a local firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The craze became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It captures the essence of Miami: happy, multicultural, and based in heritage that bring people together. Annually, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
